"There is a basic assumption of adult safety by both the Instructors and the students. This class is on how to handle people who are out of control and potentially dangerous. Yes, elementary students are probably not threats to adults, and middle schoolers are only slightly more, but there was no differentiation of training for older kids... a 16 - 18 year old can hurt people even bare handed, and even if said 16 - 18 year old has developmental delays their physical body may be extremely strong. My suggestion is that during Instructor Certification there is an emphasis on "Real World" training: 1> people acting as the subject should not be cooperative during restraint training. 2> more emphasis on self and bystander defense."
"Teaching strategies can be improved. This training felt more like a review versus a first time training on the subject. Organization and preparation can be improved."
