2018-2019 Conferring with Readers
Section: READ20190004Helping students become better readers is what reading conferences are all about. Participants will investigate the underlying principles and reasons for conferring with students, recognize the different types of reading conferences and explore ways to make reading conferences part of a daily routine.
Learning outcomes:
*Read and study Jennifer Serravallo's A Teacher's Guide to Reading Conferences, Grades K-8, in order to:
*Define what a reading conference is
*Identify the actions a teacher might take before, during, and after a reading conference
*Identify a reader's strengths, what they need as a reader, and determine how to set goals for readers
*Identify the parts of a reading conference and the six kinds of reading conferences a teacher can use
*Explore conferring with individuals and groups
*Identify the role and actions a student takes during a reading conference
*Plan for, practice, and implement reading conferences with students
*Reflect on conferring practices and debrief a reading conference with a colleague
